Description: A State school instituted in the 16th century. One of Spain's old and respected universities. The usual admission requirements were: an entrance examination and completion of the Bachillerato Unificado y Polivalente (BUP) program and Curso de Orientación Universitaria - university orientation course (COU) (12 years of education). In 1998 and 2001 respectively the BUP and COU were phased out. Currently the bachillerato (12 years of education) and an entrance examination (prueba de acceso a la universidad) are the admission requirements.
