Description: Instituted in 1847;became University of Roorkee in 1949. Renamed Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee in September, 2001. India's first technical university. Considered to be a good school. Usual admission requirement is the intermediate certificate (12 years of education) and the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), a competitive national examination for admission to all seven IITs.
