Description: Private school instituted in 1968. Most faculties are of equal status to state institutions. Private schools in Indonesia do not enjoy the same status as state institutions. Their faculties are individually categorized into three levels. Prior to 1998 these were "disamakan" or equalized, "diakui" or recognized, and "terdaftar" or registered. State institutions are fully recognized by the Ministry of Education while private institutions have faculties with varying and mostly lesser levels of recognition. Since 1998 the terms "terakreditasi A," "terakreditasi B," and "terakreditasi C" respectively have been used. The "A" level signifiies equal status to state institutions, "B" a lesser level, and "C" the lowest. At the lesser levels students must pass a state examination in addition to completing degree requirements at the school. Usual admission requirements are the secondary certificate (12 years of education) and an entrance examination.
